Marriage Registration for GCC Citizens in Georgia

Many people from Gulf countries come to Georgia to get married. It’s easy, the places are gorgeous, and you get your official marriage certificate fast.

One thing to keep in mind: even though GCC countries have a lot in common when it comes to legal stuff, there’s no single legalization rule for all of them. Georgia follows the Apostille Convention and also performs full legalization; however, each country has its own status within this system.

Marriage Registration in Georgia for GCC Citizens

1. Passports for both the bride and groom.

Double-check that your passport is still valid. If you have more than one, use the one you used to enter Georgia, that’s what’ll show up on your marriage certificate.

2. Visa-free travel to Georgia from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman.

Still, you should always check for any recent changes in immigration rules before your trip.

3. Your country’s rules for using foreign documents.

Here’s where things get different. Once you have your Georgian marriage certificate, you’ll need to get it apostilled or fully legalized through Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and your embassy, depending on what your home country wants.

Apostille or Legalization?

Georgia gives you a marriage certificate in Georgian. To use it back home, you need a translation plus either an apostille or full legalization. You get this sorted after your wedding at the House of Justice.

Apostille is the simplest. In Georgia, you just need the translation and the apostille stamp, and you’re set, as long as your country is part of the Hague Convention.

Full legalization is for countries outside this Convention. That means:

• Translating the document

• Certification by Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs

• Certification by your country’s embassy in Georgia

• Or, if your country doesn’t have an embassy in Tbilisi, you’ll have to go through the embassy responsible for Georgia in a nearby country

🇦🇪 UAE – Full legalization needed. The UAE Embassy in Tbilisi handles it, and it takes about 10 to 20 business days.

🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia – Apostille is enough.

🇶🇦 Qatar – Needs full legalization (Qatar didn’t sign the Hague Convention).

🇰🇼 Kuwait – Also requires full legalization.

🇧🇭 Bahrain – Accepts apostilles, but sometimes you’ll need an Arabic translation for certain government offices.

🇴🇲 Oman – You’ll need legalization through the embassy.
